Photo courtesy of Highfield school Talbot Forest Cheese in Geraldine achieved two gold, five silver and three bronze medals at the 2002 New Zealand Cheese Awards - a success attributed by the owner to his staff! Some of the tasty winners are Castle Rock, a hard Italian style cheese; Alpine Sunset, an English farmhouse style; Opihi, a round, waxed, soft and creamy cheese; and Brockette, a fresh, low salt feta style cheese. "We are trying to keep the cheese names locally orientated so that a bit of Geraldine, as well as the cheese, is recognized, " says owner Mr Fitzsimons.
