Within a short
distance from our boutique lodge you can take a heritage
tour and step back in history to the days of the early
settlers, or even further back in time through Maori
cave drawings. The limestone bluffs and caves of this
region are natural art galleries, home to 90 per cent
of New Zealand's remaining rock art. There are approximately
300 rock art sites in South Canterbury, all within a
70km radius of Timaru.
A huge amount of work is continuously invested in preserving
these sites, and in providing access and information
for the growing number of national and overseas visitors
wanting to study these unique glimpses into New Zealand's
past. |
