The South Canterbury Museum
is a great place to explore the region's history. The building
is as unique as some of the exhibitions it hosts. The octagonal
gallery displays geology, wildlife, Maori, early European settlement,
and maritime history - as well as social history including
costume, early household items and many aspects of past local
life. A temporary exhibition space features an ever-changing
programme of colourful exhibitions. A library and research area
provides access to information and images of local history, people
and events.
