Town of Winchester one and a half hours south of Christchurch and approximately 3 hours north of Dunedin, located on State Highway 1. It is only 10 minutes from Temuka and Geraldine. Other surrounding areas include Pleasant Point, Peel Forest and Timaru. This area is known as the "Central South Island". The area has a population of 42,000 and has activities for everyone, such as golf, walking, hikes, fishing, hunting, snow skiing and water skiing. Canterbury is also the location, where some of the filming for Lord of the Rings and Vertical Limits took place.
